What to Expect

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” – Karl Lagerfeld

Professional photography is an investment in creating memories and documenting once in a lifetime moments. When you are choosing your photographer, regardless of the type of photos you need, it is important to ensure the photographer will be able to document these special memories in the way you want to remember them. Especially nowadays, anyone can pick up a cell phone or camera to take pictures (and I definitely encourage you to), however this does not replace the need for artists like myself to create once-in-a-lifetime imagery. With over a decade experience behind a camera, plus a bachelor’s degree in art/photography, I know the best ways to document these moments and all the little details, so you can look back on and enjoy them for years to come.

Before the Session

Before we even book our session, I will get to know a little about you and your family! We will discuss the type of session you need, your goals, and how best we can capture these moments. Then, we will review date, time, and location options, plus my packages, and discuss which will work best for you. Once we decide, you'll send a retainer to hold your appointment time (which will be applied to your session fee), and we’ll set a date! I will send over a contract for you to sign which will outline all the details, along with an optional model release, since your privacy (if desired) will always be more important than my desire to share your beautiful images.

When you book, you will gain access to my Welcome Packet & Style Guide to outline expectations and help you decide what clothes will be your best option to evoke the mood we are going for. You can see the do's and don'ts from my Style Guide and you can send me options so I can assist you every step of the way. You are also welcome to send me any ideas/poses that convey your vision for the session, however, I will be fully prepared with plenty of poses and prompts, even if you don't. I will confirm with you a day or so before our session, check the weather, and will remind you of any important props you should bring to help tell your story (such as a letterman jacket for a grad, ultrasound for maternity session, etc).

During the Session

When you arrive for your session, normally I will start by guiding you through your traditional formal and posed shots to give you a little time to get comfortable with me. Then, we can proceed to do the fun, candid shots, documenting all the genuine and authentic moments, which I will provide prompts for to capture you and your family’s unique personalities. If it is a family session, I will always be sure to document the entire family, then do as many breakdowns as requested (just mom & dad, all the siblings, kids alone, mom & kids, dad & kids, etc).

The full session fee is also due at the end of our session but can be paid in advance or with a payment plan up to the day of the session if you would prefer.

After the Session

Once your session is complete, this is when I really get to work! I will upload and backup your images immediately following the session. Over the next days, I will review all your images and narrow out any images not up to standard (such as blinks, out of focus, duplicates, etc) until we are left with the BEST of the BEST. Then I will edit the images, sticking to my normal style, the style you booked me for! Every image I deliver will be hand-edited including basic retouching and skin softening. My goal is to product the most natural looking images while still displaying you and your family in your best light

If you select an ALL INCLUSIVE package, you will receive all the deliverable images when they are ready for download, to cherish and share with family and friends. If you pick a package with a limited number of images, you will be able to review all the images to select your favorites, and you will have the opportunity to purchase additional images at this point if you end up falling in love and wanting more! Once you select your favorites, I will convert your album for download, and they are yours to share and enjoy!

Creating Artwork

During the selection process, if desired, I will work with you to order Wall Art and create custom Memory Boxes (after all, why invest in beautiful artwork if you won't get to enjoy it every day and pass it down for your kids to enjoy as well?). If you chose to use my years of expertise to assist you through this process, we can discuss which images will look best in your space, and I will help you curate a beautiful collection of tangible archival quality artwork which can be handed down for generations to come.

My mission as your photographer is to capture ALL the important moments in your life, and provide you with stunning artwork to enjoy for a lifetime. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have during this process. I look forward to working with you very soon!

FAQs

Q: How long will it take to get my photos?

A: Every session is different, so please refer to the contract for more information, but a regular portrait session takes about 1-2 weeks, and event or wedding photography can take about 6-8 weeks. If selections must be made, you will have one week to select your images and your finished gallery will be available within 48 hours of selection.

Q: Do you deliver every image you shoot?

A: A big part of my job is to sort through the hundreds of images I shoot and provide only the best of the best. I will eliminate any images not up to standard (blinks, missed focus, test shots, bad expressions, etc). I promise it is not in my best interest to withhold good images!

Q: What is your editing style/what do you do to the images?

A: I would consider my style vibrant and bold with true to life colors. I hand edit every final image that I deliver, and include basic retouching and skin softening on all portrait packages. More advanced edits are available for an additional cost per image, however I do not offer body shaping or alterations services in an effort to celebrate every body's natural beauty.

Q: Can I have the unedited images too?

A: In my experience, creating a photograph is more than just snapping the shutter. It is a product of the styling and preparation that goes into it ahead of time, the posing and prompting during the session, and of course the magic that I work during post-processing. As an artist, I consider each image I deliver a masterpiece in it's own right, and therefore will not deliver any artwork that is only halfway complete.

Q: Are you going to post my images online?

A: Although I love to share the beautiful images we will create, your privacy (when requested) will always come first. This is why I provide an optional model release with every session, and you can choose whether or not to sign it. We can also postpone sharing until a certain date, an event has passed, or a special photo gift has been given.

Q: Can you recreate a certain vibe, style, or pose from a previous session or image I found?

A: I am always happy to review your inspirational images and do my best to meet your needs. Remember that every location, season, time of day and weather conditions create unique lighting conditions, which means no two sessions will look the same, however I will always do my best to help your vision come to life! When it comes to editing styles, I have spent over a decade developing my own unique style, and therefore always stick with my style in order to stay cohesive to my brand so you know exactly what to expect when working with me!

Q: Can you accommodate my/my loved one's special needs?

A: I would be more than happy to discuss your needs, and together we can decide what the best approach will be to accommodate your unique circumstances. I have worked with hundreds of families with varying needs over the years, and am always open to new opportunities.
